Suvendu Adhikari says

Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, has attributed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) victory in Delhi to the significant support from Bengali voters. Specifically, Adhikari mentioned the contribution of the Purvanchal voter bank, with BJP securing 20 out of 29 seats from this region. He emphasized that the increase in Bengali voter turnout played a crucial role in tipping the scales in favor of the BJP, making it a key factor in their success in Delhi.

Adhikari also discussed the efforts by Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, who campaigned to support Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, aiming to ensure his victory. However, he argued that the result was not just a loss for AAP but also a setback for the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Adhikari credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and charisma for motivating a larger Hindu voter turnout, particularly after fears surrounding past elections like in Maharashtra. According to him, this contributed to a higher voter engagement, especially in areas with a significant Bengali population.

The Leader of Opposition further highlighted the increase in voter turnout in Delhi, with a rise of approximately 8 to 10 percent in votes, as crucial in the BJP’s triumph. He stressed that this victory in Delhi signals the party’s potential in future elections, specifically in West Bengal, where the BJP aims to replicate this success in the 2026 state elections. Adhikari added that the return of BJP to power in Delhi after 27 years further signals the changing political trends in the region.

In response to the election results, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accepted the defeat and congratulated the BJP for their victory. In a video message, Kejriwal expressed hope that the BJP would fulfill the promises made to voters, acknowledging their expectations from the party. He also highlighted the achievements of the AAP government in Delhi over the past decade, particularly in areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure, and confirmed that the AAP would take on the role of a constructive opposition in the future.
